The Championship's London derby

Writer: Will OakleyWill Oakley

Over the weekend the Championship restarted, and there was one key game that's not only important due to it being a London derby, but also because of both teams league position.

Some people, including myself, believes the Championship gives the Premier League in being one of the most fun, competitive and unpredictable leagues in the world. Whilst there is a lot to talk about for the Championship in general, I'm going to focus on Fulham against Brentford. Fulham went into the game with Brentford four points behind them and both teams looking for the win. Whilst both sets of fans were quite confident and hoping for a win going into this fixture, Brentford fans probably had more of a right to be confident. They've already beaten Fulham once this season, and clearly weren't afraid to do it again.

The first half was probably one of the most entertaining 0-0's out there, with lots of shots, forward passes, and a strike hitting the woodwork from Bobby Decordova-Reid. Both managers went for quite an attacking philosophy which is something Scott Parker hasn't always gone for this season, whereas Thomas Frank has. The second half was very nerve-racking (being a Fulham fan). Fulham started off the better team, creating many chances, and the league's top scorer, Mitrovic, scoring, which was ruled offside. However, that changed as the game went on, from 75 minutes onward it was all Brentford. Chance after chance eventually lead to Fulham's defence being torn apart, something that seems to be a recurring theme this season, and Brentford opened the scoring on the 88th minute, and went on to score a second in the 91st.

Both teams worked really hard, but Brentford wanted it more. Thomas Frank has given Brentford a new reputation as a top class side, whereas Scott Parker is struggling to get the best out of his strong squad.

And on a personal note, well played Brentford, and good luck. From a Fulham fan.
